Spring Wreath

Since we got married, I've been accustomed to having decorative or holiday wreaths on our front door.  My wonderful husband seems to think I get a little carried away with them sometimes though. So I decided to go with something simple for spring. My aunt had this plain wreath sitting in her garage collecting dust. So I added some fake flowers and a tulle bow I had on hand. I spotted these adorable little birds at Dollar Tree (my favorite) to top it off!

I think I did a good job of toning it down, right?

Antique Window Frame

I LOVE all the PB antique window mirrors. I have been dying to DIY one like this...

While driving one day I spotted this antique window propped up against a building. I was determined to make it mine! The sweetest lady told me I could have it. The only thing I did to it was clean the glass. It's now hanging in our bathroom with pictures from our wedding day of Seth and I getting ready! It is the perfect fit. I love it!

I am still on the hunt for an old window with 6 panes to turn into a mirror but this one will do for now!

I've been MIA!

With good reason though! I got a new job, which is wonderful, but has made for a crazy past two weeks! I am the new Marketing Director for Alumni Hall Stores. If you live in Knoxville you may be familiar with the UT stores here but we have 12 other stores that sell amazing collegiate team gear! If you haven't visited, definitely check us out! I'm a little biased but perfect for gifts, unique team apparel and tailgate gear!

Hopefully I can manage to find time to to still craft and share!

All my bags are packed, ready to go!

I have been anticipating this trip for quite some time now! It is my best friend Berkley's bachelorette weekend in Myrtle Beach! Our little version of an adult spring break! The weather is going to be amazing and 16 wonderful women will be making the trip to celebrate. My packing is a little out of hand but I was a girl scout and "always be prepared" is still my motto. I'm just hoping more things don't pop into my head before my am departure! Aloha!

P.S. Be on the lookout for some beach bachelorette decorating and party games recap when I return!

Mod Podge Letters

I love mod podge! In college we used it all the time for different projects. This one bottle has lasted me forever and still has a lot more projects to go. Recently I made decopodged LOVE letters with some scrapbook paper I had laying around. These letters came from Hobby Lobby, just so happened to have a gift card (Thanks Emma!).

I traced the letters onto the back of the paper and cut it out with a 1/4 inch border to wrap around the edges. First you generously paint on the mod podge and then put the paper on top. Coat the gluey mixture on top of the paper and edges too. This can be a little messy. Then let it dry and you're done!

Here they are all done and hanging on my skid pallet shelf in our bathroom! Love the LOVE!

Burlap Wine Bag

Over the last few months, I have discovered TONS of blog projects made with burlap. There are just so many possibilities, who would have thought?

Super cute wreath made from a hanger and burlap pieces...

 Monogrammed burlap stockings...

 Adorable table runner...

Perfect chair pillow...
And my personal favorite, wine bags! I honestly cannot remember where I found this photo. But from just looking a it, you can see how simple it is to re-create. I decided to make one for my sister who will be turning 21 in less than two weeks! This project was so quick and easy, even Seth commented on it being my quickest craft yet!

First, I cut two pieces of burlap about 6 inches wide and 12 inches tall. Then I put them together and sewed the edges, leaving an opening at the top. I used the ribbon width to mark where to cut slits to weave the ribbon. You could just as easily wrap it around the outside if you'd rather. Finally, I turned it rightside out and ran the ribbon through the cuts. To top it off I printed off her monogram and hot glued it to the wine bag.

Ta da! Don't you just love it? Now you know why I was so anxious to get that burlap (for 50 cents, what a steal!). You could do this with any cute fabric and ribbon. Perfect for a hostess gift to have on hand and just personalize last minute!

Trash to Treasure Fashion Show

My last post title, Trash to Treasure, reminded me of my Freshman year of college and a fashion show competition I entered for my residence hall.
"Lindsey Howd of Humes Hall, is the "star" of the show in this outfit adorned with stars cut out from a bag from Panera bread.  Her top is made from a white trash bag, while her skirt, adorned with plastic forks and spoons, used to be a Victoria 's Secret shopping bag.  Her stylish, 1940's-inspired hat is made from a paper plate."

Oh, I forgot to mention, I won! A tad humiliating but what the heck! Been thrifty ever since!

Trash to Treasure

Saturday I had the pleasure of attending (and working) Bag-A-Bargain for Junior League. Basically a giant, crazy yard-sale. To be honest, I was quite overwhelmed with all the sections and stuff. I only walked away with a few purchases. Sorry to disappoint all of you that thought I would find lots of material for craft projects or transformations.

Candle holders, a big back of corks, burlap fabric, and some cute invitations. Nothing too exciting but I only spent $4 so not too bad.

I've been looking for some candlesticks for the bookshelf in our bedroom, I think they work perfect here!

A great investment if you ask me :)

Spring place setting with burlap tied napkins

Candle and cork centerpiece for our spring table!

I have a great project coming up with the burlap fabric if I can find some time! Hopefully in the next few days!!!

Bag-A-Bargain 2011

It has been entirely too long since my last blog post! But to be honest, I haven't been doing very much worth sharing. I have had the worst creative block! But I'm hoping that will all change this weekend! I am attending Bag-A-Bargain this weekend and hopefully I can find some good deals or things to transform! If you live in Knoxville, you should check it out this Saturday. They have everything from household items to clothes to kids items. I'll let you know what I find!
